To Brian: De Falco's (there was a space between De and Falco's) was a grocery store chain with a few locations in SD. My mom shopped there all the time in the mid sixties at the El Cajon location. It was located in what was then called the El Cajon Shopping Center (long before Parkway Plaza) at Magnolia just north of the civic center. There was a "Unimart Membership Department Store" there, too. The other De Falco's location I remember was in Spring Valley at a shopping center at the corner of Sweetwater and Jamacha Roads. On their very large sign was "De Falco's" in script and one just below it that read "Food Giant". Yes, the two entraces were at the corners of the store. There was a in-store bakery where I bought glazed donuts for 5 cents. Sometime in the 1970's Von's bought out De Falco's, but did not substantially change the store layout. Ultimately, Vons left the El Cajon location and it became a movie theatre for several years. From what I undestand that whole area is completely different now.

At the intersection of El Cajon blvd and College ave was the Aztec Motel...looks like it was being torn down....May 2008. It would seem that M.Bahl and I walked some of the same turf.....near that little public library was a little 1 truck fire dept next to the College auto repair. Across the street...on the Campus drive in side was College hardware and a restaurant called "Manny's" I think. On the NE corner was "Home Federal Savings and Loan" where I had my first account--- now a Washington Mutual. You can go to the State of California home page and check old bank records to see if you have any money you forgot about years ago----its free $$ Anyone remember when Taco Bell had those big fire pits out front the store.....how did they make any money with the gas always burning such a big fire....one more thing---Remember the Easter egg hunts at Colina Del Sol park....near Crawford HS....could that happen nowadays....or would people protest.....Greg

I just remembered the Triton Restaurant, it was next to Food Basket on El Cajon Blvd. near the old Campus Drive-In (BTW, My dad's classmate posed for the famous neon majorette)! Anyway, the Triton inside was totally free form, like someone on acid had designed this seafood restaurant out of dripping adobe. It was like being underwater. There was a cheap motel across the street; I used to walk by on my way to the 7-11 nearby or the Public Library. Mr. Daniel, I remember those nuns from B.S., they all scared me!!

Something else I was thinking of...in between Tower records and Wherehouse records on El Cajon blvd was a place called "Puppy World"...they had 20-30 different kinds of dogs and a bunch of breeds of cats as well. Greg

Wow, what awesome memories. I was born and bred in SD and went to Blessed Sacrament like Greg Daniel. Journey Disco (near Clairemont), Wherehouse Records on El Cajon Blvd., Tower Records on Rosecrans, The Strand Theatre in OB for midnight movies and the bowling alley near the old Cinerama Theatre on University Avenue were my hangouts. I also remember trolling all the "Head Shops" near SDSU to buy Bamboo "cigarette!!! papers".
