don't throw out your christmas trees just yet!
The city's Environmental Services Department will be collecting your Christmas trees at 16 drop off points within the city.
You can also leave your trees on the curbside if you have curbside yard waste collection.
The city is doing this to reduce the amount of material that will be buried at the Miramar Landfill. They say that yard clipping and other organic stuff make up more than 20% of landfill material.
Also, the trees that you're going to be drop off has to be stripped of ornaments, stands, lights, etc. only fake snow will be accepted.
what will they do to the collected trees?
Good question Edizen. I also wonder what they will do with the trees. Maybe they will recycle them for paper?
I think a possible use for the trees would be to chip them up and use them as mulch, but that's just a guess.
I think it's a very positive program for the city to take the initiative to collect these trees. Other municipalities could take a cue from this.
yes i agree. its a good program - much better than throwing it after using.
I'd think that the trees would become mulch, too.
I think it's a great program, and I would expect the community to have services like this to help the environment.
i have at home a Christmas tree but it plastic, when the month ends i keep it and reused it for the next year so that i could spend money and time again to shop for new one.
