Could anyone tell me how the crime rate of San Diego is compared to other large US cities?
I got this online:
Until 2007 San Diego had a declining crime rate.
From 1990 to 1994, when the city had averaged 139 murders (or 12.2 murders per 100,000 residents).
In 2004, San Diego had the sixth lowest crime rate of any U.S. city with over half a million residents.
From 2002 to 2006, violent crime decreased 12.4% while overall crime decreased only 0.8% partly due to a 1.1% increase in property crime.
In 2007 the city had 59 murders and the murder rate rose to 4.7 per 100,000 (national average of 3.1). The overall crime rate rose by 2.1%.
Total property crimes were lower than the national average in 2004. In 2007 burglaries, property crime, larceny/thefts, and vehicle thefts were more than twice as high as the national average.
From January 2008 to November 2008, total violent crimes recorded were 10566 cases... while a total of 68282 property crimes were recorded.
Compare that to the same period last year, there was a decrease from the 12395 violent crimes and 80862 property crimes in 2007.
I took at look at the December statistics for 2007 and 2008
Total Violent Crimes in Dec. 2007 was 1200, while there were 6965 property crimes in the period.
The ARJIS site didn't have data for December 2008. December has higher crimes than other months, except for July.
