Very funny error! Time to beef up the fact-checking staff U-T!

Sign a Petition to Save Bazaar Del Mundo!

On October 17, 2003, the State of California announced that it was
discontinuing the lease of the Bazaar Del Mundo property to Diane
Powers after more than 32 successful years. The 3-member panel also
disclosed that in the Bazaar’s place it was awarding a new long-term
contract to Delaware North, a corporation based in Buffalo, New York.

A web site has been set up to gather signatures that will be used to
help stop this change. Bazaar Del Mundo is part of San Diego’s history
and should not be sold off to a New York corporation.

I moved here four years ago after living almost a decade in Jamaica. I live in San Mucous, in a nice tract home –two dogs, two cats, two kids, one husband. So here’s my take on SD, after coming back with an immigrant attitude: It’s a great place to work hard and achieve material things. Yet I look at my past four years here and think, okay, great, we got the cars, the house, the THINGS we thought we needed when we left Jamaica, but at what cost? I don’t get the profound random explosions of JOY (drug-free even) that I used to get in JA…looking up at the Blue Mountains after a rainstorm, seeing whispering schoolchildren in gingham uniforms and hairbows, laughing at a goat standing on a Mercedes trying to reach a mango…but then again, maybe those were just knee-jerk reactions to living another day without getting robbed or murdered. I dunno. I went to junior high/high school/college here in Encinitas, so I’m not dissing the place…I guess I just don’t fit any more. Kind of ironic…my first blog EVER and it’s in a forum where we should be sharing stuff about good ol’ SD, and I’m ready to move to Maui and embrace the island life again. Go figure. Guess that’s what happens when it’s 2am and you’re turning 37 tomorrow! I’ll do better next time Joe, I promise…
