I found Mark Evanier’s post “What Happens in San Diego Stays in San Diego” quite informative and entertaining. It basically decimates the idea that Comic-Con International would be better off in Las Vegas as suggested by Katherine Keller in her opinion piece in Sequential Tart that “What Happens in San Diego… Should Happen in Las […]
Pokez, (and myspace) the venerable lefty hippy arty cool vegetarian-friendly Mexican restaurant downtown is practically an institution among the hipster set. I myself loved eating there back when I was working downtown.
Well, all is not well in Pokez-land. Here’s an allegation of an autistic customer being assaulted for not ordering fast enough: “Assaulted at dinnertime […]
We’ve had more than one question to this post about the Charger Girls tryouts, so it’s worth noting here that there’s now a page on Chargers.com answering that very question. Check it out at chargers.com/charger_girls/audition/ — there you can download the PDF of the 2007 Auditions Application.
Kinda cool:
ESPN.com - MLB/HOF07 - Gwynn, Ripken elected to Hall of Fame; McGwire vetoed
Gwynn, who compiled 3,141 hits and a .338 batting average during his 20-year career with the San Diego Padres, said he was fidgety and nervous before he received the call from Jack O’Connell, the BBWAA secretary-treasurer.
“I broke down right away,” he said. […]

Here’s San Diego: hey, what’s that other fool calling itself “San Diego Blog?” Lame.
Here’s us: San Diego Blog: Real San Diego Daily | Placeblogger
Here’s what they say about themselves:
Placeblogs are sometimes called “hyperlocal sites” because some of them focus on news events and items that cover a particular neighborhood in great detail […]
Sad.
Longtime San Diego brewer Karl Strauss died in Milwaukee on Thursday at the age of 94.
Strauss, who founded the Karl Strauss Brewing Co. in 1989, was born Oct. 5, 1912, at a brewery in Minden, Germany.
“He was a man who loved life and loved beer, he had a great passion for beer,” said the company’s […]
Yes, get out there and vote everyone, it’s election day! More.

Marine Corps Times - Miramar ball guest cancels; wants to bring porn-star girlfriend
There are only two weeks left until the Marine Corps birthday, and the air station in Miramar doesn’t have a guest of honor for its ball. Ultimate Fighting Championship brawler Tito Ortiz was slated to fill that chair at […]

My personal hero, Mike Nelson (from Mystery Science Theater 3000) just moved to San Diego (working for a local outfit called Legend Films) and made a two campaign ad parody for Angelides and Arnold. Thought I’d spread them around to some California blogs. Lemme know if you think it’s worth a […]
How was this done? I took the San Diego Bloggers OPML file, imported it into Google Reader, and then shared it. You could do it too!
Niftylicious.
Steve Cherry sent us this the other day, but our form was broken and that sucks. These photos don’t though:
Patio Playhouse just opened up “Guys and Dolls” this last Friday, and I did a bit of shooting for their dress rehearsal. I’ve attached 3 images, and the gallery can be seen here.
Vyuz San Diego, ever vigilant for important, weighty topics, has this latest news item: San Diego’s OnlineBootyCall.com reaches one million members with only a single marriage:
OnlineBootyCall.com, a San Diego-based online dating site, announced that it has reached the one-million member mark while receiving only one confirmed report of marriage since the web site’s launch three […]

I haven’t sent shots in a while, so thought you might like these from the Carrier homecoming last week. I was there shooting for the USO. I have attached a couple neat silhouette shots and there is a decent sized gallery at my site. Just click on […]

Shuttle + Station Flyover Video
See anything weird in the sky last night? The Moon was next to
Antares, and the Space Shuttle — docked to the International Space
Station — flew right past it. They’re bright individually, but
together they’re easy to capture on video or […]
Yo! San Diego! What are you up to for today, for the weekend? For the 4th?
Back in 2004 I wrote a short piece explaining what the Stingaree was, basically it was San Diego’s red-light district in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Come to find out that the Stingaree is back as the name of a nightclub down on 4th Avenue. Everything old is new again!

Here is a video of the spy satellite launch from Vandenberg that flew
over San Diego, past the crescent Moon as well as Mars & Saturn. The
tropical sunset was nice enough, but the rest of this made for a
spectacular evening.
