In the aftermath of another bewildering loss, LaDainian Tomlinson put the San Diego Chargers’ perspective, as only he seems capable of doing. “Make no mistake about it: This is a critical time for our football team,” Tomlinson said Monday; a day after a 17-10 loss at Miami dropped the Chargers to 2-3. ” These next (games) before the bye are very critical for us. To me, this is going to determine what type of team we’re going to be…”

The Chargers went to Miami expecting to beat the Dolphins, while tuning themselves up for the big showdown with the Patriots. This is always a dangerous thing to do in the NFL, because no opponent should be overlooked. Miami was the laughing stock of the league last year because of poor coaching and a ton of key injuries. However, this year they have their top players back, along with new leadership in the front office, and a new better than average quarterback. This has allowed them to put together back to back wins against two of the NFL’s pre season darlings: the Bolts and the Pats.

The Dolphins took advantage of the flaws in the Chargers game that have already been exposed: LT’s foot and a complete lack of general toughness on every phase of the defense. Watching the game on Sunday felt exactly the same as watching the Raiders game, except the Dolphins held the Chargers off at the end.

Next week San Diego will play New England in a game that won’t really prove much to either team other than being able to say We were the better of the two teams that Miami came out of nowhere to beat. This was never supposed to happen. Next Sunday was supposed to be a preview of the upcoming AFC Championship game, but it is not. LaDainian is right to be concerned; if the Chargers can’t turn it around in the next few weeks, they don’t have the right to go all the way, and they don’t have the right to be surprised about losing to the Dolphins.

Here are some places to check out for the upcoming Sunday night game against the New England Patriots:

Players Bar and Grill

This bar in the middle of Kearney Mesa is a huge appropriately rowdy spot to a watch a heated battle involving a any team from New England. It is a Boston sports bar at heart and will be a great place to check out. Their menu is huge, tasty and reasonably priced. The service is excellent, and be sure to get there early to get a good seat.

Callahan’s Pub

In Mira Mesa, there is nowhere better to watch sports than Callahan’s. Like Players, it is a Boston sports centered Pub, with a huge menu and plenty of big screens to view games. They offer traditional Irish food along with American sports bar staples that are second to none.
