OK so I’m  not really a hiker myself, but after hearing and reading about a group that actually hikes every Wednesday in Balboa Park, I might change my mind.

The Southern California Camping & Hiking Cooperative  Meet-Up group sure sounds like a fun mix of people who just get out and have fun. They meet at 3:45 p.m. and start the hike at 4:00 p.m. checking out portions of the 1200-acre urban park by meandering through various areas, trails and getting up close and personal with nature.

Once the hike is complete, they dine on cheese pizzas that are brought in by local establishments, laugh and mingle. All of this for $1.00 (you do have to contribute to the pizza fund if you have a slice or two). However, you also have to become a member (check the Web site for enrollment, details, etc.), first before you can participate.

At the moment, 13 people are signed up, and there are 9 open spots. You must RSVP by Oct. 1 @ 10:00 a.m. (that’s tomorrow people) if you want to join the hike.

You can even bring your dog if he/she is friendly and on a leash. At the very least, you’ll meet people and get some exercise in at the same time.

When was the last time you actually took a hike anyway?
