If you haven’t made it out to see the Annie Leibovitz exhibition at the San Diego Museum of Art, you should head down to the museum this Thursday, March 8th. From 6.30-8.30 pm, FM 94/9’s Mike Halloran will be spinning tunes for the crowd. Cash bars will be set up in the rotunda and upstairs with a specialty drink by Tuaca for $4, a specialty beer for $2, as well as other adult beverages. Guests can also enter a raffle for a chance to win a pair of VIP tickets to the Annie Leibovitz exhibition, an autographed copy of Leibovitz’s book, A Photographer’s Life: 1990-2005, a one night stay at the Omni San Diego Hotel, and a $75 gift certificate to Café Sevilla.

I went to the exhibition this weekend and really enjoyed it. The photos are installed chronologically and range from portraits of celebrities and public figures, to personal family and travel photos. This photo of Brad Pitt was a standout due to the color.

And this photo of Susan Sontag in Petra, Jordan is amazing in its composition.

Also, there is a photo room, where there are hundreds of proofs and other photos that are not in the exhibition but are equally compelling. There is also a media table, where the exhibition catalog can be reviewed, along with her previous collection of photos American Music.

For more information (and to view additional photos), visit FM 94/9’s event listing or the SDMA site. For those of you attending, I would suggest you get your tickets prior to the event. The last time I went to an evening event, the line wrapped around the building, but since we had tickets, we were able to bypass everyone and just enter the museum. I’m hoping there will be a big turnout so we can continue to see more of these types of events at the museum.

I love the SD Museum of Art. At the right times, it turns into a giant classy bar. Makes me think of Andy Warhol’s factory.
