San Diegans might be familiar with the cumbia because of its surging popularity in Mexico, but they’ll be able to hear the original Colombian version on January 11 at Acoustic Music San Diego performed by New York-based group La Cumbiamba eNeYé.
This young band of Colombian ex-pats plays a high-energy take on traditional Afro-Colombian sounds, and their debut CD, Marioneta, was named one of 10 “Picks of the Year” for 2006 World Music by the Financial Times.
Their live shows, bursting with musicianship, authenticity, and energy, have won them a large following in Colombia and in New York, and this show will be part of their first-ever trip to California. Dancing encouraged! Jan 11, 7:30pm, Acoustic Music San Diego, 4650 Mansfield Street, San Diego. 619-303-8176.
