Downtown to get 2nd Grocery Store

In a follow-up to our May 2006 discussion Nearly Empty Downtown and a few comments, downtown San Diego will finally be getting a 2nd grocery store. This Friday at 7:45 AM there will a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Albertsons. The new grocery store will be on the corner of 14th Street and Market. That is the south east edge of East Village.

Now if only Trader Joe’s would move in….

i was involved in that original post about empty downtown- i have recentely noticed multiple signs of life in areas i once described as empty. signs of life= vespas parked outside of condos, people walking around in streets, retail establishments moving into condos, more drapes and windows treatments visible from the street, etc.

Albertsons was very empty when it first opened, but we were there on Sunday and it had a decent number of people shopping.

I’m with JeSais.. give me Trader Joes!

I vote for a Trader Joe’s as well. A Whole Foods would be good to. With all of the new condo development in downtown (www.ccdc.com), it’s shocking that there are no gourmet grovery stores in the area!

well, I guess if you stretch to buy a 600K studio condo you probably can’t afford gourmet groceries! :-)
