On my way to work every morning, heading north, I’ve noticed an interesting proliferation of signage along I-5, and kicked myself for not having my camera with me. First came the “JESUS DID FOR US” which upon closer look, had a little “e” tucked in between the I and the D, an afterthought I guess. If you are a believer, I guess Jesus “did” for us, and also “died” for us… but I digress.
Next came the Jesus in effigy on the cross. It actually looked like a clown with a red crown on a cross, but given the sign, I assumed it was Jesus.
The next morning I noticed a rather large sign that said “Houlihan is a whore.” If you are at all familiar with Encinitas politics, Maggie Houlihan is a city council member currently running for re-election.
Now I don’t live in Encinitas, and I don’t know Maggie- though I may have met her once– so I can’t really speak for her abilities or accomplishements as a representative. HOWEVER, I am beyond appalled by the sign, and apparently the city is non-too-thrilled either. From the North County Times I found the following:
Encinitas issues violation notices to businessman for signs, crosses
ENCINITAS —- The city issued two notices Thursday to an Encinitas businessman for violating sign and building ordinances on his property along Interstate 5.
Copies of the notices obtained by the North County Times state that Russell Bowman, owner of American Landscape and Tree Services Inc., must “remove or reduce all temporary signage to a maximum of 16 square feet.” MORE–>
Seems its a bit more serious than simply a violation of sign ordinances. Seems to be more along the likes of defamation of character… Is it just me, or is name calling not only out of line, but un-christian-like behavior?? I mean what would Jesus do??
I saw that sign on the weekend, pretty messed up.
Seems Houlihan is no longer a whore, and now its “Jesus Says” …on another building: “Vote No Houlihan” sure do wish I had my camera with me.
The guy is nuts. The guy’s friends are nuts. I know because I know them.
The encinitas council, minus Houlihan, were letting him get away with all sorts of things just to drive Houlihan nuts. She lives across the street from this guy. He finally went overboard. Oh, it wasn’t Jesus on the cross it was Houlihan. She has red hair and always wears dresses like that.
Only when this hit the press did code enforcement really come on line to clean this guy up.

Well, I did know Maggie before she got into politics. She is a very good person and this guy is hard to see as anything but a total jerk. I was sad to read that she is recovering from cancer and I think it’s especially unChristian of this guy to be harassing her.
I was in San Diego last weekend visiting a friend. After she picked me up at the airport and we headed north, we noticed the sign. We were horrified … and very upset that we missed the chance to take a photo.
Our question is… why does he think Houlihan is a whore… just regular-ole name calling or what?
Maybe he’s just thinkin’ JESUS thinks Maggie is a whore, in which case it qualifies for the hearsay exception. Duhno why we all don’t hang a sign d’jour up to relieve pent up feelings that can’t be expressed face to face. Maybe if there were a couple of million FUCKBUSH signs burma-shaving I-5 we wouldn’t be ass deep in Iraq.

I completely disagree with Maggie Houlihan’s politics. I think her race stunt in Japan was an embarassment to the country, the county and her city.
That being said, I’d like to be the judge who gets the assault case on my docket when Mr. Houlihan punches the sign poster in the nose. The decision will be swift, just, and appropriate; I’ll let Mr Houlihan get one free shot in the courtroom.(and I’ll hold the guy’s arms)
Maggie you are a liberal…but you’re a “whore?”. Come on, is there no decency left?

And what was Christy Guerin who receives a $2500 worker’s comp check every month doing in a marathon?
