You might also add that the post titles should be a street address near where the something is happening.

Good to see Dan Gilmore in San Diego :) I followed Dan’s Blog for a while but disagreed with it’s big government bent. If you’re interested in journalism/media Buzzmachine (Jeff Jarvis) and Jay Rosen’s Pressthink are also great blogs.

I stumbled across some open source disaster management software the other day called SAHANA http://www.sahana.lk/ which might make sense as a core piece of Strong Angel’s bag o’ tricks.

Maybe WordPress integration with the RSS plugin and feeds coming from the technorati tag would simplify things. I helped out with the Katrina response, trying to get things organized over the internet. One lesson I learned is that if you get too many people trying to organize data it can actually hinder response. There were dozens of groups trying to gather names of survivors, etc. so when people wanted to look for their family they had to pick from a huge number of websites in various states of disrepair.

Also, reliance on technorati is a bad idea for crisis situations. Their servers can (and frequently do) become overloaded. They’re eventually going to need their own dedicated servers to handle the load or the whole system could stop working. A better solution might be scripts that do advanced blogsearch.google.com searches and convert the results into a RSS feed.

The Sahana folks are sitting at the next table…

I like the blogsearch idea a lot, too. can you suggest the appropriate code for the script.

I’ll see if I can throw something together tonight. It’ll probably be in C# for but I can redo it in Perl or whatever if need be.

Looks like Google added RSS feeds for blogsearch results. No coding required. Here’s the RSS Feed for the results for strongangel3 ordered by date (newest first).

    http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch_feeds?hl=en&q=strongangel3&scoring=d&ie=utf-8&num=100&output=rss

Just do a search for strongangel3 and click on the RSS icon in the address bar of Firefox (or IE7 beta).
