I’ve now lived in San Diego for 6 years and I have yet to run into a single celebrity. How about you? Have you had any celebrity sightings here in San Diego? Who, where and when?
You can follow any responses to this entry through the RSS 2.0 feed.
It’s been a while… a looong while, but I saw Desi Arnaz on the balcony of his Del Mar house back in the early 80s. I was but a small child (LOL) walking on the beach.
Many years ago at the Del Mar Race Track I met the one and only Orville Redenbach (the popcorn guy). I tried to make small talk, he almost ran me over trying to get to the window to place a bet!
I sat next to former Wisc Governor and Sec of Health and Human Services on a United flight from SD to Denver. He had the aisle seat and I was next to him at the window (1st class).
I said something about needing to squeeze by, and he was cool with it. Once we got settled he introduced himself as “tommy” and I told him I knew. I had spotted him in the terminal working his crackberry and a 20 oz starbucks. We chatted for a bit and he gave me his WSJ when he was done with it, even though I made the faux pas of getting the import beer instead of the mille.
Ahh, the airport. I just recall the time I saw sports announcer Dick Enberg in line at the airport Starbucks (the one inside the terminal where the scald your drinks to 200+ degrees).
I just remembered spotting Kimbery Hunt (tv news, not sure what channel anymore) and Billy Ray Smith (Chargers) circa 1988 at The Broadway in Horton Plaza (now a Mervyns I think) where I worked… I remember be dazzled by the ROCK on her finger.
How do you put HTML links in comments??

Hey Je Sais,
Here is multi-part post, part celebrity post, part for your Cunningham comment and part html advice (I hope)
In my earlier Orville Redenbacher post, I neglected to post that I have met Duke & Nancy Cunningham, in fact I was the real estate agent that sold them the house that create all the furor back in the 80’s. I was surprised when the story broke and thought “Dang, that can’t be right! Duke wouldn’t have done that” then I researched the comparable sales and thought “Dang, I guess the story is right! The guy I knew back then was a stand-up guy I never would have thought he would fall into that trap but… I guess he did (and then some).
Regarding html in the post, I put something up on my tech website that might help.

I’ve seen Kimberley 2x. Once at Daily’s in UTC, the 2nd time at Rubio’s in Mission Valley (the stand-alone one). Both times w/ BR, the 2nd time with kids.
She was smoking hot. (both were about 10 years ago). Not sure what’s she’s done to herself, but she doesn’t look quite right any more.
I saw Vin Scully at the Mission Valley Barnes & Noble a few years ago.

When I was a USCD freshman living on campus, I saw the Simon and Simon guys (Gerald McRaney & Jameson Parker) filming by Central Library (umm..I guess it’s called Geisel Library now).
Yes, I’m that old.
My wife saw Bill Walton at a swap meet a long time ago.
For all the basketball fans out there… David Robinson in the Apple Store at UTC on April 30th 2004. Check out this picture… I’m 5′11 and he makes me look like how all my asian aunts look when they stand next to me! =p
I saw Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise getting a private tour of the SD Zoo when I worked at the popcorn cart near the flamingos. … I worked the Media Center when Super Bowl came to town in ‘98 and saw Andy Rooney from 60 Minutes/CBS shuffle by. … I think I saw Wayne Brady in downtown San Diego with his wife and bodyguard the last time the Super Bowl was in town. … While it wasn’t in San Diego, when I worked at a TV station in L.A. I met Bob Costas and Don LaFontaine, who does the many, many voiceovers for tv and films.

I worked for T-mobile in vista and had Tom Delonge from blink 182 as a customer. I also met a few celbs while selling phones in different malls. good place to spot and meet celebs. especially UTC. During the super bowl i actually had the chance to say hi to 50 cent. he was actually checking out my co-worker. he came up to the kiosk and i asked if i could help him. and he just stared then turned and walked away. she was a hot co-worker:) that same day we saw Gina Davis, Ben afflek. also had tony hawk as a customer at t-mobile. not the first time i have met him.

as a matter of fact. T-mobile in vista is a great place to work if you want to meet celebs. a lot of x games stars as well as some tv stars are regular customers.

I do a farmer’s market close to the convention center on Sundays. During comic-con I saw a handful of celebs pass through the market. Other than that, I’ve had 2 celebs come to my booth: Cindy Crawford & Officer Dangle (Thomas Lennon) from Reno 911 (the guy in the shorts).

Ive seen Seth Rogen at Horton Plaza during Comic Con and he’s suprisingly a lot cuter in person. I’ve also seen Mark from Blink 182 at the Nordstroms in Fashion Valley.

I’m sure someone can beat that!

Re Kimberly Hunt a little too much fine-tuning at the doctor’s office would be my guess.
And Comic-Con would be a good place to spot some celebs.
And look at me with my HTML ( I hope it worke). Thanks for the tips guys!

When San Diego hosted the Super Bowl I looked everywhere for a celebrity. Nothing. I even bought VIP tickets to Paul Oakenfold. Nothing.
Also, if you see a celebrity behind a booth, that doesn’t count. If you see them at 7-11, that does.

Not a celebrity in my books, but Bill Walton has been following me all around town lately. I’m gonna have to get a restraining order.
