It was damned hot yesterday. 104 in El Cajon. It actually got hotter later in the day.
The highs came uncharacteristically late in the day. A shallow marine layer had been pushed out to sea by easterly winds earlier in the day. So it made it all the way to the coastal waters and then the afternoon sea breeze kicked in and brought that warm air back to the shore. (SDUT)
Here is a list of cool zones (pdf) primarily for seniors and disabled people. Air conditioning, coffee and wi-fi get me in the door. Where do you go to beat the heat?

This is crazy weather. A thunderstorm actually knocked out power in Clairemont yesterday morning. When I got to work in La Jolla, people didn’t even know what I was talking about.
We had a good rolling loud thunderstorm in Carlsbad! Made me feel like I was back in Chicago.
After reading this post this morning, I decided to take the opposite approach. I wanted to MEET the heat. So I went to Poway in the middle of the day and spent 3 hours hiking Iron Mountain. photos
You’re such a contrarian, MAS! Great set of pix!
Joe,
First off, let me thank you for your San Diego blog, it’s one of the few I enjoy reading. Please change nothing in your site design, it’s great as it is, clean, easy to navigate, and devoid of clutter, unlike a number of other blogs out there. I see no advertisements but I’m using a large hosts file to block ads so maybe that’s why?
In a former post you mentioned something about ways to better the site, my suggestions:
* More articles!
* Do some investigative blogging: go out yourself or have someone else go out for you and report on experiences at San Diego events/places. Do a review on everything experienced throughout a day at a place in detail with honest opinions.
* Review items/services in San Diego and perhaps draw opinions between similar items/services for comparison.
* Sit out at a table at some popular place in San Diego with a lot of people present and take feedback from local residents on their favorite places/events in San Diego and report back here with the answers
* Keep up the good work with how you’re doing things right now
Thanks again!
I did live in South Florida for 4 years. So I really don’t consider this –hot– weather.
If you see me out in Borrego Springs next month, feel free to have me committed.
