Stingaree

Back in 2004 I wrote a short piece explaining what the Stingaree was, basically it was San Diego’s red-light district in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Come to find out that the Stingaree is back as the name of a nightclub down on 4th Avenue. Everything old is new again!

Kevin sent us:
Here is a video of the spy satellite launch from Vandenberg that flew
over San Diego, past the crescent Moon as well as Mars & Saturn. The
tropical sunset was nice enough, but the rest of this made for a
spectacular evening.

Thanks!

He also put some nice pix on flickr.

Beat the Heat

It was damned hot yesterday. 104 in El Cajon. It actually got hotter later in the day.
The highs came uncharacteristically late in the day. A shallow marine layer had been pushed out to sea by easterly winds earlier in the day. So it made it all the way to the coastal waters and then the […]

This question is for those of you that go to the San Diego beaches.  How do you secure your keys and wallet while you are in the water?  I’m going by myself today, so I can’t have someone watch my stuff.  What beaches have the highest and lowest theft rate?  Any tips to avoid becoming […]

San Diego Flights Guinea Pigs in Southwest Airlines Assigned Seating Test

Unassigned seating is sort of a differentiator for them. Interesting move:

Boing Boing: Textamerica goes fee-only, will delete all old, free moblogs

San Diego moblog company textamerica has a heckuva PR problem.

Living in the Past

When it comes to San Diego’s Old Town, and the carpetbagger New York based Delaware North’s big old ideas to turn the state park into a semi-historic recreation of the mid-1800s they neglected to mention when they bid for the contract that the revenues would be reminiscent of mid-1800s San Diego as well.  Revenues are […]

Bigger isn’t always better…

Headline news today over at the UT, “We’re now No. 8″ referring to the fact that San Antonio, Texas has knocked San Diego off the number 7 spot according to the latest Census Bureau estimates.
In 2004 and 2005, the city actually lost population–  8,276 people, to be exact– for the first time this decade.  San […]
