Children’s Hospital Caregivers Call on Pediatric Facility to Ensure Workers Have a Stronger Voice for Safer Staffing New National Labor Coalition, Community Leaders Urge Hospital to Work with Employees to Secure Quality of Care
SEIU Local 2028
Representatives from community, labor, and religious groups and Children’s Hospital caregivers for a rally calling on the city’s only pediatric hospital to work with its employees on issues ranging from safer staffing levels and input on patient care to affordable health insurance for employees and their children.“In light of the recent tragedies at the hospital, management needs to work much more closely with its caregivers to ensure the highest standards of patient care,” said Cindy Lewis, 27-year-employee.
In hopes of raising standards for patients and caregivers, workers have been negotiating a contract with Children’s Hospital for two years. Employees have proposed the creation of a patient care committee, where workers could help implement safer staffing levels and bring any suggestions to improve patient care directly to top administration. Workers have also proposed higher minimum wages and access to affordable healthcare to stem the high turnover rate.
I think these are the tragic events they’re talking about.
