Debbie Siegelman sent us: Americana artist Sara Petite , CD release party
San Diego-based singer-songwriter Sara Petite announces the release of her self-produced CD, “Tiger Mountain.” The event will be held from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the Ould Sod at 3373 Adams Avenue in San Diego’s Normal Heights community on Sunday, April 9.
More after the jump.
The artist’s debut CD features a collection of 11 songs, many of which are based on her memories growing up in Sumner Washington, a tulip-farming town southeast of Seattle. Recorded on a weekend coupled with some late weeknights at DoubleTime Studios in Santee, the album serves up a diverse palate of musical styles ranging from alternative country to bluegrass and roots rock.
“The album features the work of several musicians, including the now Nashville-based Steve Peavey (mandolin, banjo, acoustic guitar, pedal steel), who was once a member of the 7th Day Buskers. Fellow Busker, Sean Rohlf, plays banjo on the title track, and Melissa Harley provides warm-sounding fiddle work on “Coming Home,” “Ruby” and “Huckleberries.” Also featured is the B-bender style of Jesse Harris, son of Greg Harris of the reincarnated Flying Burrito Brothers in the 1980s.
Other local musicians who perform on the CD include Jim Austin (upright bassist for Golden Hill Ramblers and Bartender’s Bible), bassist Wade Maurer (MacAnanys), guitarist C.J. Hutchins, drummer John Kuhlken (MacAnanys, Slidewinders), and guitarist Rick Wilkins (the Outriders, Romy Kaye). Engineer Jeff Forrest also lends a hand on the accordion and backing vocals.
Sara is a modern-day June Carter with the lyrical sense of Dolly Parton. Her inspiration for songwriting comes from fond memories of home and her travels throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Western and Eastern Europe. In her first songwriting competition, Sara advanced to the semi-finals in the 2005 International Songwriting Competition in Nashville, Tennessee, which had nearly 15,000 entries. In the last year she has played clubs in San Diego including The Ould Sod, LeStat’s, Tio Leo’s and The Whistle Stop. She has also made guest appearances in Oxford, Mississippi, Seattle, Washington, and Nashville, Tennessee. In May of this year, she will embark on a 14-day tour in Ireland with Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Brax Cutchner.
