Sure, there’s 161 games to go, but with an opening performance like this, it might end up being the Padres first time going to the post-season in consecutive years.

“I can honestly say that with the team we have put together,” Peavy said in the afterglow, having gone seven strong innings, “if we get to the postseason, we have what it takes to get 11 wins.”
Peavy is a genious on the mound and the management does seem to have put together a great team this year. Still, for a club that got swept in the first round of last season’s World Series that’s a pretty bold statement. There’s some new blood on the team, but there are also more than a few veterans and I think that player health is going to be at least as big an issue this season as it was last season.
Still, I’m pulling for them. Congrats on a powerful and encouraging Opener.

Last night certainly represented a great start. Here’s hoping…
1-0 and already talking about post-season. God I hate sports fans.
But what fun would it be if we couldn’t analyze it and argue about it for six months before finding out that we were dead wrong to begin with? It should be a sport all to itself.
Only if they win by default again. It’s tough “trying” to be a Padres fan (being a transplant), and even harder when the division is shamefully weak.
