California’s new Poet Laureate

An educator and a man with a passion for the arts, Young began publishing poems, stories and articles in his early teens. He has taught poetry and fiction at universities nationwide, and his works have appeared in publications including the New York Times, Chicago Review, Seattle Review, Rolling Stone, and the Norton Anthology of African-American Literature. His prose has been translated into many languages, and he frequently travels internationally, reading, lecturing and performing with musicians. Young has also worked as a screenwriter, collaborating with such stars as Sidney Poitier, Bill Cosby and Richard Pryor. He has received numerous awards including the Wallace Stegner, Guggenheim, Fulbright, National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, PEN-USA Award for Non-Fiction, the Pushcart Prize, two American Book awards, and book of the year honors from the New York Times. Young often talks about being in the moment. March 3 is the moment to join this great storyteller at MiraCosta College for a memorable evening of poetry and prose!
