From the Voice of San Diego, a nonprofit news site/blog/local media entity with some nice reporting and columns, a plea for donations, as well as some new editors. More after the jump.
Dear Friend of Voice,
Voice of San Diego is the region’s first nonprofit news Web site that brings divergent and diverse perspectives to the issues facing our communities. Like you, we are concerned about the future of our region and how important issues that affect your life are presented. At Voice , we’re committed to news coverage that is timely, unbiased and compelling.
As a reader, you’ve seen Voice of San Diego grow into something important, worthwhile and diverse. Something exploding with energy. We’ve raised the bar in how local issues are covered by the news media. We’ve been welcomed with open arms by community leaders, local newsmakers, government officials and thousands of others like you who desire in-depth, independent news coverage. Most recently, Voice staff received first place for “Overall News Site” at the San Diego Press Club’s 32nd Annual Excellence in Journalism Awards, along with 16 other awards for local news coverage and commentary.
In 2006, our resolution is to provide more timely updates on news stories, increase our in-depth coverage of the arts, sciences and housing, as well as bring new readers and supporters each day to our site.
Help us reach these goals and join as an individual member today. A number of membership levels are available, and contributions are tax-deductible. During this holiday membership offering, we are also excited to partner with the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park to provide select new members with 2 passes for the upcoming exhibit, “Eye to Eye: Photographs by Graham Nash.” Simply visit our Members section for more information and use our secure online form to join today. If you are a current member, please consider giving a friend, colleague or relative the gift of membership to join the collective Voice that is rapidly rising throughout San Diego County.
Your gift will ensure a great New Year for a young organization. Please feel free to contact us by calling our Membership Coordinator at (619) 325-0525 or send us an e-mail directly at members@voiceofsandiego.org.
Warmest holiday wishes,

*Voice of San Diego Names Executive Editors*
SAN DIEGO — Andrew Donohue and Scott Lewis have been named executive editors at Voice of San Diego, the region’s only nonprofit online daily newspaper. Award-winning journalists who have been involved with Voice of San Diego since its inception, Donohue and Lewis have quickly taken the reins upon the resignation of former editor Glenn Rabinowitz in mid-November.
Donohue joined Voice of San Diego in February 2005. As executive editor, he oversees news coverage and reports on local politics. He has won local and national awards for feature writing and investigative reporting. Most recently, Donohue swept the “Daily Newspaper, Breaking News” category at this year’s San Diego Press Club Awards for his coverage of the pension scandal and Mayor Dick Murphy’s resignation. Before coming to the Voice, he was a reporter in Washington, D.C. and Virginia. Donohue is no stranger to local politics; he also covered city hall for The San Diego Daily Transcript.
Lewis has been writing for Voice of San Diego since May 2005. He oversees opinion, commentary and production. Lewis writes a twice-weekly column on politics and local issues, and coordinates the submissions of Voice’s many local contributors. He has covered politics at a diverse collection of publications from Salt Lake City to Rhode Island and finally, San Diego.
