While Sura sings to the accompaniment of the harmonium he leads the rest of the members on instruments such as the esaraja, tamboura, kartals, flute, violin, and mrdunga drum in a dynamic symphony that is timeless. The Temple Bhajan Band plays ancient Vedic bhajans, which include mantras and chants from spiritual India. Many of the chants are done in a responsive fashion where the audience can participate and experience the purifying pleasure of the chanting.

Navy putting Navy Broadway Complex up for lease

Mack Reed of the estimable LA Voice sent me this the other day, and I'm just now getting up to speed: I stumbled across this in today's L.A. Times and thought of you. ... the Navy's opening up a section of the waterfront to development. I transcribed a bit of this tiny display ad from the Times: "The Navy has issued an RFP for the lease of approximately 14 acres known as the "Navy Broadway Complex" located on North Harbor Drive facing the downtown San Diego waterfront. Through special legislation, the Navy intends to offer this premiere, downtown land for long-term lease to a qualified developer or development team (yadda yadda yadda) Proposals will be due Jan. 4, 2006.
