Saturday, October 1, 2005 is the 2005 Solar Tour. It runs from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm.

Solar Homes Tour 2005 is the sixth annual showcase of residential solar technologies. This year, 28 homes throughout San Diego County are participating, including new construction homes from Pardee Homes. This self-guided tour offers real life, working examples of three residential solar energy technologies: solar electric (photovoltaics), solar water heating and solar pool heating.

How the Tour works. Just pick the home sites you want to visit and show up anytime between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Look for the Solar Homes Tour lawn sign and you’ll know you’re in the right place!

I did the North County Inland portion of this tour 2 years ago. It was very impressive seeing an electric meter run backwards (push kwH onto the grid) during a hot summer day while the air conditioner was running. If you plan on staying in your current home for at least 5 years, I encourage you to take the tour. California makes most of it’s electricity from natural gas, which is expected to double in price this winter.
