Time to dust off the Buffy costume and get out your best autographing pen because San Diego Comic-Con, the largest comics and pop culture event in North America, is just over a week away. Even if you’re not much for the comics or pop culture, this event is hands down the best four days of people watching anywhere this side of the Playboy Mansion. And where else can you catch Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman, Rachel Weisz, and Kate Beckinsale under the same roof? Tickets this year range from $15 for Sunday’s festivities to $65 for a four-day pass (of course, kiddies and the elderly get in for a tad less). Full details, including the program schedule and registration information, can be found at the Comic-Con site.

Geeks be forewarned, the Padres are also playing a home series against Arizona the same days as the Con. Narnia, King Kong and so much more…it’s going to be an awesome weekend!

That could make for some of the best trolley rides around downtown, well worth the 5 bucks for a day pass just to go in a continuous loop on the blue line.

The best part of the Comic-Con is the annual Klingon play on Friday night. Here’s a story that appears in Wednesday’s feed of Wireless Flash News Service, a San Diego-based news agency that sends original offbeat news to 800 media outlets around the world.

Stage Set For Klingon Community Theater
SAN DIEGO (Wireless Flash) – Star Trek fans will soon be putting down their pimple cream and picking up their theater glasses.
That’s because members of the “Imperial Klingon Vessel Stranglehold” fan club are preparing for their annual “Klingon lifestyles presentation” at San Diego’s Comic-Con on Friday night (Jul. 15).

The presentation features about 20 Klingon converts who dress up in Klingon costumes and act in original plays.

Dennis Hannon – who performs as “Admiral K’han Den” – says this year’s performance will center around his ship’s crewmembers who mount a rescue mission after returning to their ship to discover it’s been abandoned.

Hannon is tight lipped over who the villains are, but he says they’re other popular Star Trek villains.

But it won’t be anyone from Earth because, as Hannon puts it, “humans are not villainous enough.”
