San Diego Bloggers who also have geo.position or ICBM tags on their pages are now able to see themselves on new improved maps. Here are screencaps.

Here’s one. The Google Maps API is here.

Here’s another. The Yahoo Maps API is here. More about it on he yahoo! search blog.

The old map is here.

You can see a Y! developer talking smack about the differences between the API’s here. Lots of talk out there about these twin APIs going live within days of each other.

If you are a local blogger and want to be added, read more about geo meta tags here. When you add them, contact me and I’ll make sure to recheck your page. At some point I could automate this, but for now it’s through me, for better or worse.

UPDATE: Okay, there are two kinds of meta tag, which need to be placed in the <head> section of your web page:

ICBM:

<meta name=”ICBM” content=”latitude, longitude”>

and geo.position:

<meta name=”geo.position” content=”latitude;longitude”>

Either one will work. Here’s a generator for the latter.

    Excellent work Joe! How about having a permanent thumbnail link to this page on the right column?

    I have a link to the old map, but that’s a nice idea!
