I met Evan and Diana right before he got sick. He had just moved his magazine from a San Diego printer to my company in Los Angeles. Evan and I had a great relationship and I was even invited to his birthday party where I had the chance to meet some of his family. It is now 2008 and I had wondered what had happened to Evan so I looked him up on the internet and found this notice of his passing a couple of years back. I know that he and Diana are people of great faith, and I am confident that his faith (for it is by faith that we are saved, and this through grace) has granted him access to a meeting with God himself...It's not the amount of years that one lives, it's what that person leaves behind during the time they are here that matters, and Evan has left behind a great and loving legacy, even a dumb old print salesman like myself knows this....It was great to know him for the short time that I did. I hope Diana is doing okay, too. I know she was having some physical challenges as well, and that was one of the reasons that getting sick was doubly difficult for Evan at that time.

Sincerely,

Over a year later, since this last posting, I wanted to say thank you, again, to Annie and everyone from North Magazine. And of course, to all of the readers and advertisers during the run of the publication.
My father, Evan Israel, really had a passion for this business and for creating a publication that would speak out to the community, of which he was a member.
After 2 years of battling with cancer of the brain, he recently has passed away (Early Sept. '06). It broke his heart that he no longer was capable of running his busines, as he really was so proud of its growth, and contribution to North County San Diego.

If any of you knew Evan Israel, or appreciated his work with North Magazine, there is a fund available for donations.

Thanks again to all who were involved.

Where is 'San Diego North'? Living here just my entire life, I had to figure it out, so I did some research, and all can be explained here:

... including La Jolla north to Oceanside, Poway/Rancho Bernardo north to Fallbrook, Julian and the Anza-Borrego Desert. ...

It appears word of this distinction has traveled slowly to some of us in San Diego Rest.
