So the music industry settled a lawsuit with the State:
To address unfair competition in the sale of Music CDs, Attorney General Bill Lockyer, other state attorneys general and private counsel sued five major music distributors and three national chain stores alleging a price-fixing scheme that prevented other retailers from advertising discount prices. As part of the court-approved settlement in this matter, the defendants provided $67.4 million in cash and music CDs worth $75.7 million.
San Diego is getting part of that take. They have huge PDFs detailing what music the various entities will recieve. See: Can I see a list of the CDs, or find out what CDs my local institutions will receive? — the answer is varied. For example, the San Diego Unified School district is getting 80 copies of Whitney “cokehead” Houston’s Star Spangled Banner and 20 copies of Linda Ronstadt’s A Merry Little Christmas, not to mention 12 copies of Michael Bolton’s Timeless. SDSU, meanwhile is getting 2 copies of Clint Black’s Greatest Hits II and 3 copies of Christina Aguilera’s My kind of Christmas.
