Some people are apparently pretty upset at Mayor Dick Murphy, upset enough that people want to recall the mayor , now whether this will be as successful as the recall of Governor Gray Davis, who knows? For now, there’s a yahoo group called “RecallMayorDickMurphy.”

Holy cow! My SDUT news alert says that he will resign!

Mayor Dick Murphy today announces that he will resign as mayor
on July 15, 2005. The announcement came at a 10:15 a.m. press
conference. A special election will be set up to replace Murphy.

More here: Murphy resigns, will serve until July 15th

    Agreed, about time.

Looks like Neil Morgan called it.

Also agreed. I feel so removed from SD politics. What does this mean? Who takes his place? Will there be another election?

The Mayor resigns 5 months into his term, after winning reelection in a close race that ended up being decided in the courts. The US Attorney is investigating criminal public corruption. The Deputy Mayor, who will act as Mayor until another is elected or appointed, is about to go on trial on federal corruption charges. The SEC is investigating the City for securities fraud, apparently over the City’s handling of its pension fund, which is in huge deficit.

Yikes. Sounds more like Chicago than San Diego…

Dear GOD - does this mean we’ll end up with Donna “420″ Frye after all?

Hee he. Maybe that *is* what it means MAS.

Could she possibly be any worse?

I go out on a limb and predict she’ll be elected.

And she’ll do no worse. Of course, the bar is already so low! Heck MAS, you could run!

Sorry Joe, until my house sells I’m an Escondido resident. For those of you that haven’t been to Escondido - it’s like Old Town with plenty of parking!
