Enough signatures have been verified to force a special election to overturn a vote by the San Diego City Council that could lead to the removal of the Mount Soledad cross, Mayor Dick Murphy said Tuesday.
In a letter to the city clerk, Registrar of Voters Mikel Haas said 72,859 signatures had been verified; 33,610 were needed.
