It’s time for TNT again, tonight a Q&A session with Los Angeles-based Cerca Series artist Kori Newkirk. For his exhibition, Newkirk presents an experimental form of signature “pony bead” curtains, which he creates using the kind of small colored beads often seen in elaborate braided hairdos. DJ Tony (Naked records) and bkSOUL performing.

Friday

Under These Circumstances, works by Josh Cochran, Ben Horton, Pamela Jaeger, and Brendan Monroe. Runs February 4th-24th at the Voices 1156 Gallery in downtown. Opening reception from 4-11pm.

Music

Republic of Letters playing with Victory Mansion and The Phuzz at the Kensington Club. Hip-Hop act Heiruspecs spittin rhymes at the Brick by Brick with Agua Dulce and Castillo.

Film

Academy nominated films, The Sea Inside with Javier Bardem and Vera Drake both opening at Hillcrest Cinemas.

Saturday

Buzz band The Blood Arm (a favorite of Franz Ferdinand, The Killers and Interpol) performing at Saturday’s Transport at the Whistle Stop. Modest Mouse at Soma.

Sunday

“Cover me Badd” presents entire albums redone by local bands! Scarlet Symphony doing a surprise album, Rookie Card playing Weezer’s debut album and Brother Love rockin a metal version of The Jazz Singer done ala Neil Diamond. Tickets are $10 for this fundraiser show at where else? The Casbah.

Modest Mouse does a second show at Soma.
