Oso & Jpatrickm,

Thanks for the info, at first glance the T-Mobile service seemed cost efficient, but to my disappointment it turned out a little more costly than I thought. Luckily, upon moving into our downtown loft this week, I found that there a number of open connections floating around for me to piggy-back on. I'm sure we could all debate the ethics of such a practice, but I'd like to think that the owners of such Wi-Fi spots left them open because they don't mind people like me "borrowing" the access every once and a while....besides, the connections are hit-or-miss and snail speed at best. We're thankful nonetheless!

I'll keep my eyes peeled for that list Oso...

RF,

I have been keeping a sorta directory of free wi-fi hotspots in San Diego that I've been meaning to post about forever. Sometimes ambition causes procrastination. I wanted to make a "Wi-Pod" guide and a "submit a wi-fi hot spot" page like Joe's Suggest a Site, but I should probably just post with a list of wi-fi hot spots and edit it as new ones come.

Will try to do this week.

The Living Room coffee cafe offers free wireless internet access until 7PM every day. I frequent the one on Hillcrest but I'm not sure if all of their locations offer the service (I believe they do). They have several locations including Hillcrest on University, UCSD and La Jolla to name a few.

Regarding these "free" wi-fi coffee houses...where might one find a list of downtown locations offering such service? As a new San Diegan, I've racked up a three-digit T-Mobile bill at Starbucks & Borders from my periodic need to troll the internet for jobs and such...

I doubt that they would bother with charging for wireless service at their up-and-coming Escondido location considering that North County Fair (and all other Westfield centers) already offer free wireless service.

Their espresso drink page shows a picture of drink with some impressive foam art. Somehow I doubt they'll train their baristas on that skill. The only local cafe I know that actually does latte art is Cafe Bravo in Temecula.
