As the death toll climbs above 120,000, San Diego bloggers respond and reflect to the millenium’s most destructive natural disaster. Derek provides a link to how to help donate. Mitch has done an incredible job covering the tsunami and has even written two excellent articles on bloggers and the relief efforts. Al also writes about Amazon’s donation page for the Red Cross. Steve tells about a San Diego based group and a personal friend heading to Sri Lanka and Thailand to offer direct relief. He also provides links and info to donate directly. Beckie reflects:

With everything going on in the world right now death has been on my mind alot. I realize I am afraid to die, I don’t want to leave. The Dalai Lama says when you are afraid to die it makes you appreciate life more, he is right. I feel bad for all the people who have lost their lives and I hope they are in a better place. I don’t understand the senseless killing, I don’t think people appreciate the gift they have been given. If you can wake up in the morning and breathe and drink your coffee in a nice comfortable house that you own and surf the internet free from persecution you are better off than 90% of the people in this world and should be thankful. I think we all forget that sometimes.

One last interesting factoid: “The ocean in San Diego, 1/2 a world away, rose 10 inches.

the factoid about the ocean rising 10 inches here on the westcoast is particularly interesting.. Hopefully nothing more fascinating than that will occur for a few more years…
