San Diego Blogger Describes Tsunami

Brandon BehleVia 10News.com, I found the travel weblog of Brandon B. Behle from Rancho Bernardo who was on the Thai island Kho Phi Phi when the Tsunami struck. This is what he describes:

I’m sure you all have heard it from the news, so I won’t bother with stats. THe wave hit at 10:30 in the morning. I was getting breakfast, and was fortunate enough to see it and react. I survived the wave but lost most of my possessions. I headed up into the mountains with the rest of the survivors on my part of the island. We made it to the top of the island. And spent the night there. A canadian family took me in and took care of me, kept me sane in gernal were my guardian angels. We spent the night up there and in the morning helped carry down the critically wounded. Then we helped evacuate people at the MED EVAC center and search the debris for survivors. One of the most beautiful islands in the world was compleetly flattened and dead bodies lay all over the island. It was horribly, brutally, gruesome and something I would neer want to see ever again. After our help was used up, we got on a boat and headed to Krabi ont he mainland. I am in a hotel safe and sound now and am ehading to Bangkok tommorow.

Jesus Christ. I saw the video on ‘Countdown w/ Olbermann” tonight and it gave the event an immediacy that I had been missing. My wife said the front page of today’s NY Times also drove the point home for her - as well as for others. She said that by the end of the day, the full stack of papers was still there - no one would buy it.
