Update: It has been confirmed. We will be meeting at the Lamplighter bar in Mission Hills this coming Saturday, the 18th, at 1 p.m. Here is a link to a map of the bar’s location. It looks like there’s already a good amount of us going, but the more the merrier - please get the word out.
It’s been done before, but unless I’m mistaken, San Diego has yet to really pull off a successful bloggers meetup. From what I’ve seen, the intention has always been there, but the numbers and the committment didn’t quite match. Now though it seems like there are quite a few more of us and it seems like the idea of meeting up is being brought up at least once a week.
I know the Christmas season is a busy time for all of us, but I’d like to propose that we meet up either next Saturday or Sunday (the 18th or 19th) before we all get caught up in the holiday madness. Another factor is that Joe, San Diego’s webmaster extraordinaire who maintains this site and SanDiegoBloggers.com will be moving up to Los Angeles with Leah shortly after the new year and it would be nice if all of us bloggers were able to finally meet up before they move on.
Since some area bloggers have had problems with Meetup’s service in the past, why don’t we just use the comment thread to agree on a day, place, and time for us all to meet. It could either be a bar or a cafe, but I’m in favor of supporting a locally owned business.
Alright y’all, don’t be shy. I know for a fact that the following bloggers have specifically voiced an interest in us all meeting up:
Let’s take one day out of this holiday season to build some more community in San Diego.

Well, I won’t be shy, my recommendation is Saturday afternoon - maybe 4 or 5? - at a San Diego area bar. (a couple pints always gets the conversation flowing) Maybe somewhere like Shakespeare’s Pub on India Street?
oso said on Thursday, December 9, 2004, 20:59
Oops, I just realized, they’re only open in the morning on weekends.
Mitch Wagner said on Friday, December 10, 2004, 0:38
How about earlier on a Saturday, maybe about 1 pm? I assume people have places to be Saturday night, and that way if we’re getting along, we can hang out for a couple of hours. (If we don’t get along, we can claim we have appointments to get our brakes rotated.
A bar is fine by me. I can’t think of any recommendations at the moment. If we don’t want to do a bar, then the Living Room coffeehouse in Hillcrest is a congenial spot—or was, last time I was there, which is, now that I think of it, a year and a half ago.
I’m looking forward to meeting you all.

San Diego Blogger-Palooza!
Attention, San Diego Bloggers—some of us would like to get together and meet face to face. Details here….

i’m down to go.

I second the Saturday early afternoon suggestion of Mitch’s, only because of prior commitments.
Joe Crawford said on Friday, December 10, 2004, 11:14
I’m into it. Spread the word!

Holy crap Joe, you’re moving? And getting married??!?! Man, I gotta get my head out of the clouds and pay attention to my RSS feeds more… congratulations on both counts man, that’s awesome! Now I’ll be sure to get off my ass and finally make it to a meetup.
Also, are just “meeting up” and arranging details here, or actually using meetup.org? If so, a post to the actual group would be good - I scrolled through the San Diego Meetup groups and didn’t see a weblog one.

There’s one here. I’m tempted to say let’s just all go to that … but I’d much rather meet up on Saturday, as Oso suggested.
Anybody have any suggestions for a location? A bar, as Oso suggested, is fine by me. Coffeehouse is fine by me.
Joe Crawford said on Saturday, December 11, 2004, 0:43
Yeah - let’s defer to Oso. He’s the ringleader.

I can’t make it…I leave to Mexico early on the 18th and I won’t be back until next year.
Sorry.
oso said on Saturday, December 11, 2004, 8:55
Sweet, it looks like it’s actually going to happen. I like Mitch’s idea of meeting up at 1 p.m. What does everyone think about meeting at the Lamplighter in Mission Hills at 1 p.m. on Saturday?
Please get the word out to other San Diego Bloggers via emails, comments, and trackbacks.
Beckie said on Saturday, December 11, 2004, 9:11
I can do that. I’ll be there.
Mitch Wagner said on Saturday, December 11, 2004, 14:04
Sounds Great, Oso! I’ll be there!
Beckie said on Sunday, December 12, 2004, 9:42
OOOOoooo flaky alert one, my kids dance recital time was moved, could we do it later? Like much later 5 or 6 ish?
Al Abut said on Sunday, December 12, 2004, 18:55
1pm Lamplighter works fine for me, that’s nearby and got a great vibe. I’ve got a holiday party that evening, so later’s out. Tis the season for such things, so I’m guessing it’ll be the case for most of the rest of us as well.
Anyone bringing non-blogging significant others or is this strictly geek love?
oso said on Monday, December 13, 2004, 1:06
Uh oh. I was worried there’d be the inevitable scheduling conflict. I’m completely free on Saturday, but I think Al’s right - more people are going to be able to make it earlier than later. So I suggest we keep it at 1 p.m., but let me know what the rest of you think.
I’d really like to have an exact time and place by Tuesday at the latest so we can get the word out to as many local area bloggers as possible.
In my opinion, significant others are totally kosher.
Francesco said on Monday, December 13, 2004, 10:41
I’m assuming you all are talking about Saturday the 18th at 1PM?
Perfect for me.
Mitch Wagner said on Monday, December 13, 2004, 11:38
Saturday @ 1 pm at the Lamplighter works for me.
Derek said on Monday, December 13, 2004, 22:11
Yes, 1pm perfect.
oso said on Tuesday, December 14, 2004, 12:35
OK, good. 1 p.m. Saturday the 18th at the Lamplighter in Mission Hills. Beckie, Andrew, and Ivan won’t be able to make it, but all say they hope to make the next meetup.
Let’s get the word out.
lyn said on Tuesday, December 14, 2004, 12:47
i’m in for the lamp.
ali said on Tuesday, December 14, 2004, 13:53
I’ll try to be in for saturday at Lamp(Where is that?)!
oso said on Wednesday, December 15, 2004, 2:32
Ali,
The Lamplighter is a fun neighborhood bar in Mission Hills on Washington Street. Here is a map from mapquest.
It would be great if you could make it. I’ve become a lot more interested in Persian blogs ever since meeting Hoder this past weekend.

Alright, we’re getting spammed on this message thread and I’m getting emails cause I’m subscribed from an earlier comment. Can we institute a “turn comments off after X amount of time” policy on posts?
oso said on Monday, December 27, 2004, 1:33
Sorry Al - I just added some more comment filter words which will hopefully help. We should install an anti-spam plugin soon.
Al Abut said on Monday, December 27, 2004, 3:56
Cool, thanks for checking into this Oso.
Joe Crawford said on Friday, December 31, 2004, 10:04
Additionally Al, I have an automatic job that runs weekly that makes posts un-commentable after 30 days (I think, if I’m remembering right).
