The tournament is free and open to the public. Matches begin most days at 1 p.m. at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines. There’s a Chess Blog. Maybe I’ll dust off my Ruy Lopez opening.

Yeah, I saw that in the UT this morning. Chess has never been one of my favorite spectator sports, but I think I might stop by just to check out the scene.
