Tom Waits - Native San Diegan

This past Sunday the Union Tribune ran an interesting interview with native San Diegan Tom Waits. Or I should say excerpt of an interview since the full transcript is only available online at SignOnSanDiego.com.
The full transcript is revealing. I never even knew Tom Waits was a San Diegan, much less that he used to work […]

A Rare Breed

That would be conservatives on campus. California Review is a conservative journal from UCSD. I just received a copy of the current print edition (September 2004), which is not online yet. A sample of past articles are State-Sanctioned Bigotry Rears Its Head, Top 10 Liberal Christmas Presents and Stupid White Man: Michael Moore.

San Diego Artist: Celene

Several months ago Leah and I went to an event put on by S/he collective - an activist/art collective here in San Diego. But that’s not what I want to talk about today. There was an artist there showing some paintings, and selling works on paper, as well as painted handbags, that were really beautiful. […]

San Diego Central Freecycle

In June we wrote about San Diego Freecycle, well, there’s a new Freecycle group: Central San Diego Freecycle.
Freecycle is a simple concept - sort of “leave a penny/take a penny” - but for objects. Have an old exercise bike you want to get rid of? Post it to Freecycle and someone will take if off […]

The T Sector: RIP

Looks like The T Sector, at one time “Everything Tech San Diego — Magazine, Web, Events”has bit the dust. You can try and view previous versions of thetsector.com on the web archiving site web.archive.org.
Anyone have the inside scoop of the dying of this paper magazine? Can San Diego no longer sustain a technology-based magazine?

Still No Rain

The Union-Tribune’s Robert Krier has a relatively new weblog called Weather Watch, which as you could guess, focuses on the weather. Yesterday he wrote:
We’ve now gone 169 days without measurable precipitation in San Diego. That moves the streak into second place in San Diego history, surpassing the 165-day stretch of 1988. The longest dry run […]

Bus Rapid Transit in San Diego

As route66 has already posted, we all want traffic congestion relief in San Diego. In fact, it is perhaps one of the few things that all San Diegans can agree on.
But despite our common goal, it seems that there are two camps that differ on how it should be acheived. One camp is in favor […]
