Tomorrow, Saturday September 18th is Coastal Cleanup Day 2004. Check out which clean up site is closest to you and help join the cause from 9 a.m. to noon.
Afraid of getting lost? Maps of every site can be found here. I’ll be at the La Jolla Shores Cleanup - come on by and say hello.
Some interesting data from last year’s cleanup:
STATEWIDE: Nearly 48,000 volunteers cleaned up over 600 beaches and waterways and collected more than 686,000 pounds of trash and debris. The single most commonly found item among all that debris was cigarette butts, accounting for about 40 percent of the total number of debris items found.
COUNTYWIDE: 4650 volunteers cleaned 113 miles of shoreline at approximately 60 coastal and inland sites, removing 112,641.25 pounds of debris.
