Via a friend, this looks potentially useful:

A nonprofit group that helps the poor with legal services has launched a free Web site, lawhelpca.org , to help people navigate the state and federal courts in California. The site provides legal referrals in all 58 counties and general information on a variety of legal topics, ranging from domestic abuse to workplace discrimination. It has separate sections for issues specific to seniors, the disabled and American Indians. California Chief Justice Ronald George said the
site, and a similar online service offered by the state’s Judicial Council, “further public understanding of our system of justice.”
