Congratulations to the folks over at SoCal Free Net who have done a wonderful job implementing and maintaining a community-wide free wireless network for exactly one year today. As their project blog announces:
It was a year ago today that we installed and powered up the first node at Golden Hill. We’ve sure come a long way since then! Now we have 6 major nodes (with another any day now) and several minor repeaters. Traffic hits 30 active users most nights and we estimate that 60-70 people use the service regularly.
I am definitely one of those users and I would like to thank everyone at SoCal Free Net for the free service. If you’re interested in providing free wireless internet access in your neighborhood, check out this page.
