The KPOP website is still up, but the formerly sleepy pop standards AM station today morphs into Air America affiliate: KLSD — (does the “L” stand for Liberal?) at 1360 on the AM dial.
The station is owned by ClearChannel, but I suppose in a market dominated by more right wing talk, this is a financial gamble CC is willing to take.
We’ve mentioned this was coming, and I’m sure the excellent SDRadio.net has even more news about this, at the moment quite a long piece about the end of the 20 year old KPOP.
UPDATE: Local blogger The Moderate Voice chimes in.

CC seems to have rejiggered a lot of stuff. They moved Dr L to Stacy Taylor’s old spot (evenings), moved stacy taylor to KLSD and hired Mark Larson away from KCBQ to do “local talk” during Dr L’s old slot. I haven’t checked the FM side to see what’s new over there.

Unlike Franken and most of the Air America cast, Stacy Taylor and Lionel are both
skilled radio broadcasters … and they are both LIBERTARIAN, not LIBERAL.
I’ll be listening to Lionel. He’s very entertaining.

Franken and Air America are a refreshing change to San Diego Talk Radio. Worth listening
to.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, for bringing progressive radio to San Diego.
I don’t understand you program line up though. Why arent you airing Unfiltered in the early am or The Majority Report late afternoon. I really appreciate the Franken Show and Randy Rhoades but am missing this other Air America programs. A response would be greatly appreciated.

Hi John — it looks like you’re trying to talk directly to the folks at Air America/KLSD— actually San Diego Blog just reports and talks about San Diego stuff, we are not AA/KLSD ourselves. So as much as your criticisms are valid – - visit 1360KLSD.com to give your feedback to the station.
Thanks for visiting San Diego Blog!

Love the klsd station. Listen all might. Lionel is too dramatic and distasteful. Morning news is new much joking and useless talk. Get serious.
Off to a good start.
