I’m a noodle-holic.
Fat, skinny, boiled, fried. I don’t care. I’ll eat’em.
I love almost all kinds of noodles (after eating one too many packages in college, Top Ramen and Cup-o-Noodles are at the bottom of my favorites list)

For a while, I thought North County was barren of good asian noodles.
Living in San Marcos (region by Carlsbad), Convoy or Mira Mesa isn’t close enough for me to satisify a noodle craving in a timely manner.

No more!
I found two pretty good Vietnamese restaurants that serve Pho (one of my favorite kind of noodle dish)!
These places are located less than 10 minutes from me and coincidentally just about 1/2 mile from each other.

I really like the pho place on Clairemont Mesa Blvd — in the mini-mall sort of catty-corner from Ranch 99 — here’s a CityBeat review of it: Pho Hoa Cali: Vietnamese nirvana Rolled delights plus bowls of pho equals heaven Pho Hoacali, 7351 Clairemont Mesa, San Diego, CA 858-565-6997

Really awesome food, and a great treasure for San Diego.

And, I’ll add, at Ken W’s excellent suggestion, we at San Diego Blog have added a Restaurants & Food category for great posts like this one!

You can get some nice spicy Vietnamese noodles at Dao Son Noodle House (2322 El Cajon Blvd).

Wasn’t there an noodle place called China Fun over near Poway?

The noodle place in Poway is in the Walmart shopping center parking lot. There is also a
sitdown Vietnamese restaurant up on the Hill on the corner of Pomerado/Poway road.

Thanks for the China Fun and Dao Son Noodle House suggestions!
It’s good to know about these noodle oasisses in Poway and El Cajon.
    Damn. I’m hungry now.

For the best pho ga (noodles with chicken) this side of the Pacific go to Bolsa. Its on the corner of Mira Mesa Blvd and Black Mountain Rd.

I haven’t been to BOLSA in at least 3 years.
But when I was working in Mira Mesa, it was one of my weekly lunch places.

Isn’t there another Pho place across the street?
I think it was in the same strip mall area as La Salsa.

The Noodle gods must be reading this blog.

My wife informs me that a new noodle place, called Noodles & Company, is coming to Encinitas and Chula Vista!
It’s a chain. The menu items look tasty.
    I hope it’s good.

Yes, there’s a Pho Cali across the street from Bolsa. In fact, I’m meeting some people there for lunch today :)

I personally like Thai noodle soup for colds and for quick meals. It takes less than 5 minutes of prep and cook time and fills the belly and cures all that ails you. You can see the recipe at http://www.thainoodlesoup.com Try it out! Here in the Northen California, King of Thai is a small chain with great noodle soups!

Thanks! I’m a Pho’natic and I work in Mira Mesa but live in Encinitas, so I’ll be trying both of these out. I eat Pho about 3 times a week and LOVE it. I’m just a geeky white guy that’s found the next best thing.

    Hey Joel,

There’s a Pho place in the Lumberyard (off 101)

    Kim’s Vietnamese & Chinese Restaurant

It’s good, but a little pricey for Pho (IMHO).

Kim’s Noodlehouse in San Marcos rocks. High quality ingredients and the best flavors, and best of all dirt cheap and huge portions. Nobody beats their Pho Tai beef soup, not even my grandma. Egg rolls are awesome too, can’t get enough pickled daikon. You will make this place a habit. Not much ambience, but it’s nicely unpretentious with a family feel. You will make it a habit. Branch out and try the tableside grill dishes, awesome touch.

Pho Lucky in Vista is by far one of the best Pho places in North County. No where else compares. They were voted best Pho by Chef Moz Dining Guide.
