Interviewing San Diego: Mikey

Mikey is our second interviewee in our goal to talk to interesting bloggers based in San Diego. Mikey, formerly NerdBoyMikey grew up in Anchorage, Alaska, went to ASU in Tempe, Arizona, then to Chicago with a stop in Las Vegas and ended up in San Diego. Mikey is an incessant blogger since 2002 and has a devoted readership. He’s an “award-winning” blogger: In 2003 he won “best tagline” award from the Bloggies. “Cool, like the other side of the pillow” was the tagline. (Hmm… maybe San Diego Blog needs a tagline?) We asked Mikey the boilerplate questions, and here are his answers.

Blog Birthday:

Ah. Well, the birthday of my current blog on the domain electricbugaloo.com is March 12, 2002. I had a blog before that over at nerdboymikey.com before I unwittingly let the registration lapse and some porn search engine in Hong Kong snatched it out from under me.

Why do you blog?

Just like after school programs, it keeps me off the streets and out of jail. OK seriously, I just see blogging as another outlet. It’s social.

What do you talk about?

Just about anything is fair game. I talk on my blog just as I would talk to, say, a friend who was a co-worker. Nothing too personal, but everything is fair game. Mostly, I talk about either pop culture, personal anecdotes, other bloggers, and porn.

What don’t you talk about? Why?

My family. Just a personal choice.

Worst or best experience regarding something you wrote in your blog?

I can’t really think of a “worst” experience… I tend to let that kinda stuff go pretty easily. Best? Well, getting to meet some other bloggers IRL. I’d go so far to say that some of the bloggers I’ve met have become close friends of mine. Oh yeah, and I met my current girlfriend through blogging.

Favorite and worst thing about living in SD:

Easiest question yet! Favorite? Duh! The weather. Worst? Prices. On e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. Gas. Housing. You name it, it’s more expensive here.

If you were president of the US:

We’d all be in a lot of trouble. Honestly, I wouldn’t want that job. I’m not good at speaking for people; I’m only good at speaking for myself. I’ll tell you this, though… I am thoroughly unhappy and disappointed with the current administration.

What actor would play you in the movie of your life?

Well, there aren’t too many famous Asian actors out there (well, in the U.S., anyway), so… I dunno.

Favorite color:

Depends. Today, I’ll say green.

Favorite food:

Italian. Do I have to be more specific?

When you were 10, what did you want to do when you grew up?

I didn’t know back then, and now that I’m 35, I still don’t know. I don’t consider myself grown up, apart from the adult stuff like paying bills.

What are your hobbies?

I love working out, but I consider that to be more of a lifestyle than a hobby. I dunno, blogging. Watching TV. Those are two things I definitely like doing but could easily live without.

What do you want to tell other bloggers?

Q: What did the lawyer name his first born daughter?
A: Sue!

Thanx, Mikey!
