Oh my and oh dear. NEXT WEEK the mammothly hugely large San Diego Comic-Con will take place at the San Diego Convention Center adjacent to the Gaslamp Quarter and the new Petco Park. Dates: 22-25 July 2004.

For the FIRST TIME EVAR there is online registration for the Con. Still will be a line, but this should help out greatly.

The blogosphere is buzzing like crazy. Technorati, a site which tracks the popularity of links in blogs lists 187 links from 144 sources, including many blogs by comics and media profesionals with blogs such as Neil Gaiman and Joss Whedon (creators of Sandman and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, respectively). Some other sites sporting blog/comics crossovers are (listed according to Technorati source authority: Jonathan Rosenberg, Andrew Bell, Thought Balloons, Simply Comics, Checkerboard Nightmare, Cartoon Brew, Bags and Boards (a blog put out by Daily Variety!), La Gringa, El Mudo, Sequential, Arkham Knights, PLATFORM zine, Comic Book Idol (by the excellent Comic Book Resources, Omnibus Cortex, four Color Meat and Fish: Comic Book Reviews, Thoughts and News, Bedhead Press, LOST tv series fansite, and… whew. Wow that’s a lot of blogs right there.

It looks to me like the the most comprehensive comic book blog is Thought Balloons, and check Comic Book Resources for an all around portal, columns, news-about-comics siite. Journalista! (run by The Comics Journal) used to be the best blog for comics.

And internerds, don’t forget the Fark Party.

Lacking enough nerd-ness I have to ask: Who (or what) are farks? I do know they are meeting next Friday at the Rock Bottom Brewery.

Fark is just… Fark. It has an extensive mythology around it. It’s as much a world unto itself as The Well, Slashdot, MetaFilter. Wikipedia does a pretty good job of explaining it:

Fark.com is a popular community website allowing users to comment on a daily batch of news articles and notable websites, which it classifies as “Stupid,” “Interesting,” “Obvious,” “Strange,” “Spiffy,” and so on. Originally, the web server on Drew Curtis’s fark.com domain contained no content, except for an image of a squirrel with large testicles . Later, in 1999, the site was changed into a popular weblog, as a way for Curtis to share what he considered interesting news postings with his friends rather than sending them numerous emails. This proved to be so popular that a web-based method of submitting links was added, to avoid receiving all of their numerous emails. Eventually, Drew decided Fark needed a talkative community built around its theme of off-the-wall humorous news links, and so the fark “Comments Thingee” was born, along with a system of Fark.com user accounts.

    And hey, you asked. :-)
