SDCommunities dot net is, well, here’s their About Us page to explain what they are and how they came to be:
SDcommunities is an innovative web portal designed and developed by the San Diego Futures Foundation to empower San Diegans to actively participate in their communities through dialog in interactive forums, through the sharing of community and civic information or through direct posting of community news and events.
SDcommunities provides citizens with valuable government, educational, nonprofit, and private sector resources located close to home and throughout the county, state and nation.
SDcommunities is a project of the San Diego Futures Foundation. Supporters of this project include Microsoft Corporation, Dell Computer, Computer Sciences Corporation, Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), SBC, Avaya Inc., the County of San Diego, Cox Communications, and the City Heights Community Technology Center.
Thanks to a donation from Microsoft, SDcommunities was developed on Microsoft’s .NET platform using SQL Server 2000, the C# programming language, and Windows 2000 Advanced Server.
Thanks to a donation from Dell, SDcommunities is hosted on one single-processor and two multiprocessor Dell PowerEdge Servers. Dell also provided the server rack, peripherals, and five dedicated workstations for research and development.
Dedicated Internet service is provided by Cox Communications. Additional research and development support is provided by the City Heights Community Technology Center.
The community participation is a bit small though no posts in the Sherman Heights forum since January, as far as I can tell — it has some great info, but I don’t think anyone knows about it. I mean, I’m all about local community stuff, and I had no idea it existed.
So, hey, Check it out.
