Chargers Stay Till 2008 (or so)

Agreement with city to keep Chargers in San Diego through ‘08: North County Times

The Bolts won’t bolt. That’s a guarantee of an agreement being forged between the Chargers and the city of San Diego. The Chargers and city officials are near the goal line in their negotiations over an amendment to the team’s lease at Qualcomm Stadium. If given final approval by the City Council, the deal would ensure the Chargers will stay in San Diego through the 2008 season.

The deal would eliminate the ticket guarantee, the trigger clause and any lawsuits. In the 1995 lease, the city agreed to provide the Chargers revenue equivalent of 60,000 fans per game. The city is responsible for any shortfalls. Since the 1997 stadium expansion, the clause has cost the city $36.4 million.

The ticket guarantee pissed many people off — really BAD move by the city. The Chargers have had up a lobbying website for a while. It’s good to see maybe this will be a better deal for the city (i.e.: it won’t cost meellions of dollars).

Both the Chargers and the City leave a lot to be desired in their business dealings but at the end of the day I am an NFL fan and enjoy watching a good football game. See Sampson of the gridiron for yet another compelling reason to follow professional football.

Go Chargers…..to Los Angeles! America’s Finest City doesn’t need the National Felon League for economic viability.
