Street Scene: Year Twenty

Street Scene used to be really cool — then at some point it grew too big for its britches and was just too many young drunk idiots fighting for too little parking and making it more about hook-ups than music. Over the years I’ve seen BB King, They Might Be Giants, Keb’Mo, Sheryl Crow, Brian Setzer, Etta James, Brave Combo do amazing sets there. It’s very hard to believe this is the 20 year anniversary year.

Maybe this year will be be a return to the greatness that was Street Scene? Maybe so. the lineup has been announced and includes (so far, watch street-scene.com for more information):

Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, Black Eyed Peas, Patti Smith, A Tribe Called Quest, Ludacris, Cypress Hill, Amp Fiddler, Social Distortion, Jimmy Eat World, Galactic, Foo Fighters, P.O.D., Dilated Peoples, Wyclef Jean, Toots & The Maytals, Blackalicious, John Butler Trio, Jack Johnson, G. Love & Special Sauce, Donovan Frankenreiter Band, “Bob Marley Roots, Rock, Reggae Festival,” featuring Ziggy, Stephen, Julian, Damian and Ky-Mani Marley, Slightly Stoopid and Modest Mouse (pending).

Looks like they dropped the Sunday date. Attendance must have dropped last year. The main lineup doesn’t really
sound interesting, but I usually go for the electronica and the drag show. :)

Also, the site has changed. It’s going to move closer to the Ballpark, apparently.

i thought it was a pretty decent lineup, until i found last year’s. 2004 pales in comparison to ‘03. bands like x, flogging molly, sex pistols…i’ll be going this weekend, but knowing it could be so much better.
