Effects of local tribes’ gaming pacts to ripple across county:

A lot will depend, of course, on the size and pace of expansions at Pala, Pauma and Viejas under their new compacts with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. The revised agreements for those tribes and two in Northern California remove the existing limits of 2,000 slots in exchange for added revenues to the state.

Economists and other experts say growth in Indian gaming is boosting the regional economy, although no one has calculated the net effect. San Diego County has gone from three casinos to nine since voters approved reservation gambling in 2000.

I am not a big gambler personally, but I know these casinos are popular.
