Pendleton Pilot on Iraq

San Diego has several major military installations - Navy and Marines. One of them is Camp Pendleton. here’s an eloquent essay from by Major Stan Coerr, a Marine who fought on the frontlines in Iraq in his essay No One Asked Us (via sd homies):

I can speak with authority on the opinions of both British and American infantry in that place and at that time.  Let me make this clear: at no time did anyone say or imply to any of us that we were invading Iraq to rid the country of weapons of mass destruction, nor were we there to avenge 9/11.  We knew we were there for one reason: to rid the world of a tyrant, and to give Iraq back to Iraqis.

And have you seen Spirit of America? That’s a very worthwhile cause.

Politically the writers on San Diego Blog are all over the map, though I tend to more center-left than anything. My position on the Iraqi occupation is that it was a distraction from the war on terror, that our forces are better spent fighting terrorism. But I respect those who disagree with me based on the facts. Major Coerr is one such voice, and is well worth a read, regardless of ones political persuation.
