The San Diego County Fair opened Friday at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, the racetrack Bing Crosby had a lot to do with.

Rickety-fun rides, minor league music (Kenny Loggins!), greasy and sugary food, art exhibits, what’s not to love! I always enjoyed the carny atmosphere and the chance to win big stuffed toys. Hey, it’s an American fair. It is what it is, and many people love these things. Last year Emese had some great photos of the fair. (More about Emese in this interview on leahpeah.com).

This year’s fair theme is all Dr. Seuss, perhaps an effort to soothe a public soured on Suess based on that atrocious Cat in the Hat

So this weekend, you may want to check out the fair, take some pictures, and of course report back here on San Diego Blog.

Heh, nice site MAS (as editor of this here site I made that link, like, link).

There are some interesting bands-a-gonna play. Eek-a-mouse, Ozomatli, The B-52’s are cool. And Maroon 5 are cool in an “of the moment” type way. :-) Also, Paulina Rubio is hott if I remember who that is. What do I know, the last time I went to a concert it was They Might Be Giants at 4th and B.

Here’s the lineup — check the lineup for San Diego County Fair for the full poop: Sinbad; Journey; The B-52’s with special guests Simply Complex; Smash Mouth with special guest mrnorth; Neil Sedaka; Creedence Clearwater Revisited; Reggae Day: EEK-A-Mouse, Beres Hammond, Maxi Priest, Marcia Griffiths; El Coyote y su Banda Tierra Santa; Enanitos Verdes with special guest Alicia Machado; Maroon5 with special guest Low Millions; Ozomatli; MxPx; The Used; Los Tucanes de Tijuana; Travis Tritt; Paulina Rubio; Joan Jett and the Blackhearts; Clint Black; Women’s Rock Fest - Melissa Etheridge with special guests Beth Hart, Dana Glover & Tristan Prettyman; The Supremes starring Mary Wilson; and SHeDAISY.
