Tijuana

Time for a confession. I have not been to Tijuana in years. I have passed through it, and I remember fond stories of going down to TJ as a child to the dog track with my family. I also know many people who go down there to get dental work done by the much-cheaper Mexican dentists.

So the SDUT story Tijuana seeks to shake sin city image is sort of interesting. It makes me want to check it out. A little.

I was aware that there is an art scene happening down there that’s pretty cool — music, filmmaking, and the like. But it’s so strange, I live less than 20 miles from the border, but I’m hopelessly ignorant of Tijuana. In this era of terror, I just wonder why I would leave the country and leave the (still) abundant blessings of the US Constitution to bathe in Napoleonic-Era originating law where one is presumed guilty.

Helo! Cool to see a post about TJ. I’m from Sweden and i went to Mexico 4 years ago. We went from LA to San Diego and then over the border to Tijuana, from Tijuana to Hermosillo. It was a cool trip.
Bye!

I live in downtown San Diego and I also feel pretty ignorant of the goings on in TJ. I want to explore off the beaten path a bit more than I have in the past. I hate the touristy areas and the lame bar scene brimming with teenagers and bad dance music. But I know there is so much more hiding under the surface to be discovered. Your comments about leaving the US in this ‘age of terror’ made me cringe/laugh. I was just in Europe and felt so much safer, calmer, and around cooler people than I ever am here in the States. I think Bush has created this atmosphere of fear and propaganda that a lot of people are buying into. Honestly, it is a bunch of b.s.

Yeah, the tone of the country now is so nervous. It’s like one of those Quentin Tarantino scenes where everyone has guns pointed at each other and any second people could get hurt.

johnny — if you find cool TJ stuff, feel free to pass it on to us here at san diego blog! thanks for the comments!
